Driving around town the other day I noticed a plot of sunflowers in a cornfield. I had Miss Priss with me so we stopped and took a few pictures. We also picked a nice one for Momma. Does anyone know why someone would plant sunflowers in the middle of a corn field. It isn't big enough for harvesting the seeds or anything. I think it's to attract bees for pollinating the corn. Let me know if you know what the deal is. I also plan on going back in a few weeks to get some of the seeds. I would love to have some of these monster sunflowers in my back yard!!

Some summer listening

Instead of offering a hot new hardback for people to read this summer I figured I would offer some tunes. Digging through the ol' CD collection the other day I found my favorite Jimmy Buffett studio album. Anyone who knows me knows I love my JB. This is the type of stuff that attracted me to him..... this was before the pirate/mardi gras/perma-tour era (not that I don't like my fun filled concerts). Perfect for driving around town on a hot day in your old pick up truck or just hanging out in the back yard. If you've never really gotten into Jimmy Buffett's music then this is a great start. This is the real Margaritaville, not the radio hits of the past 5 years. Some of my favorites....."The Great Filling Station Holdup" & "They Don't Dance Like Carmen No More" Also has the concert staple "Why don't we get drunk". So click on the link, pay your $9.99 and enjoy the 105 degrees today!

Also..... I have a few homemade play lists that make about 4 CDs worth of good deep Jimmy Buffett if this strikes your fancy. Let me know and I'll send one out to you.

In keeping with this blog's name, I'm spending the morning bottling up my latest batch of brew and finding a recipe to do something with the 1/2 bushel of cucumbers we just bought. I found this recipe online by Googling cucumbers (now that really sounds naughty). Try it and tell me what you think.

Indonesian Cucumber Salad
3 large cucumbers
1 medium onion
1 chili pepper

for the dressing
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Peel and thinkly slice the cucumbers and onions. Seed and thinly slice the chile pepper. Put cucumbers in a shallow bowl, arrange the onions on top & sprinkle the chile peppers on top. Combine all of the dressing ingredients mixing well. Add salt to taste. Pour the dressing over the onions & cucumbers and refridgerate for a few hours or overnight. Enjoy.

A good little tool....

Whoever came up with this site should have a statue in every town square. The free service lets you send yourself tunes and graphics to your own phone.... you even get to pick the 20 second part of the song for your ringer! I will never pay for a song or graphic again for my cell phone. Besides, I have never even heard of 85% of the songs AT&T wants me to pay $2.50 for. The other 15% suck anyway.

BTW... my newest ringtone is Naked Eye by Luscious Jackson
