The other 40 something pitcher or in praise of Tim Wakefield

Gordon Edes has a great bit on the Red Sox rotation today. It would be wonderful if Tim Wakefield keeps up his season's pace. All in all, I think he's my favorite all time Red Sox pitcher. When that knuckleball is on there is nothing that can stop him. He regularly pitches more innings than other starters on the Sox. He's been a starting pitcher for the hometown team the past few seasons but can relieve and has even closed before. It was hilarious when he would relieve Pedro Martinez and batters would look like they were in a Bugs Bunny cartoon the way they would try to hit a 67 mph knuckleball after seeing 97mph heat for 7 innings. I would love to see his ERA remain around 2.00 all season long so that more people nationally will talk about him. How many other knuckleballers have had league leading numbers lately? How many other knuckleballers are there in the league? Of course there will be a few nights where it will seem like he's throwing batting practice to the other team (come on, even I can throw 60 mph!) but for now I hope this continues and we see the ace of the Sox staff be the other 40 something
